Body-shaming is everywhere. Criticizing yourself or others because of some aspect of physical appearance, the should and shouldn’t messages from people and the media can lead to a vicious cycle of judgment, criticism, denial and shame followed by eating and other mental disorders.

Swayambhav over the decade has worked with several groups to raise awareness on body shaming and Body honoring.

How do I see myself ? What about me matters? Why do I care about this? How does it make me feel? Once you’ve become more aware of your own body-shaming behaviors, you may notice how often your friends, family or co-workers do it. Talk to them. Discuss why it bothers you and help them see how it may also be hurtful to them. What to do when someone body shames me? What can I say? How can I help a friend who has become a constant target?
